Fabric Wall Hanging Tutorial

I found the perfect piece of fabric to decorate my wall with at JoAnn Fabrics on the clearance rack.  I wanted to redo my nook with splashes of deep red.  So, I decided to make my own art.  This is how I did it....

Find that perfect piece of fabric...

Decide how big you want your frame to be.  I purchased 8 ft pieces of 1 x 0.5 wood (2.50 each) at Lowes.  I measured and cut to size.

Next I screwed the pieces together to create....

the frame....

Next I stapled the fabric to the back of the frame.  Starting at 1 side and then the opposite side, pulling the fabric tightly as I went.

Then I proceeded to to staple the other ends.

Next I folded over the corners and stapled them into place.

And there you have it!  Art, the perfect size...perfect colors...made by you!  For a fraction of the cost!

Don't Fence Me In!

Since purchasing our home 2 years ago, we have been raising chickens on our property.  This has been an exciting venture for all of us!  Between baby chickens, eggs and the every morning crowing of Mr. Cogburn (pictured below)....it has been a lot of fun!  Don't get me wrong...."it's YOUR turn!" is phrase heard almost daily when it comes time to feeding/watering our precious flock....but it is definitely well worth it!  We decided to fence the chickens in recently, as my flower beds were growing daily (the chickens were scratching in them, throwing the mulch out in the yard).  Now, the fowl are happy, mama's happy...and you know what they say....when mama's happy, EVERYONE is happy.  ;)

Nook Redo Reveal

We moved into our new home 2 years ago. We love all the new space and plenty of yard for the kids to play! This is our home....

We have a formal dining room and also an area in our kitchen large enough for an additional table. However, we decided to make this into our "nook" instead of having another dining room. We decided to do a love seat, coffee tables and chairs, to give it more of a "bistro" feel rather than a dining room. I love this new addition as while I'm playing in the kitchen, the kids or guests can sit on the sofa and keep me company without actually being underfoot (the kids that is)..... So this is what we have so far. I'm sure there will be changes and additions....but I'm thrilled with the look so far!  You can find the tutorial for the fabric wall art here.

High 5 For Friday

This week's High 5 For Friday is brought to you courtesy of Lauren from My Grey Desk.

Photobucket

Let's get started!

1.
This may seem like an odd one, but I was so fascinated by the storm clouds that rolled in as we were driving down the road earlier this week.  I was glad to be in the passenger seat so I could snap a few pictures to share.

2.
School is out!  YAY!  We went with a friend and celebrated with ice cream!  Looking forward to a ton of fun adventures just waiting for us this summer!  And we start TODAY!

3.
I got a brand new mattress delivered yesterday! I'd have to say last night was the best sleep I've gotten in a very long time!

4.
We got our garden planted this week.  I'm so excited!  I think we may have a bumper crop of zucchini!

5.
Last, but certainly not least, I am so happy to report that both of my children finished up the school year on the honor roll!  I am so proud of them!!!
